Harvesting/ Vase Life

Dahlias won’t open much after they’re cut, so avoid harvesting too early. Cut stems when blooms are about three-quarters open and not overripe. Check the back of the flower and petals—they should feel full and firm, not papery or dry. Immediately place stems into water with a floral hydrator, or sear the stem ends in 160–180°F water (just off boiling) and let them cool in the water for about an hour. Under good conditions, you can expect a vase life of around 5 days.

You’ll notice the difference in fragrance, in freshness, and in the way each stem feels alive and full of character. Plus, when you buy local, you’re supporting a small farm, sustainable practices, and a deeper connection to your community.

These flowers weren’t mass-produced — they were grown with care, gathered with intention, and wrapped just for you.

Tuber Guarantee

We are proud to grow and ship high-quality tubers, and we guarantee that each one will sprout under proper care. Because successful growth also depends on the gardener’s handling of planting and seasonal conditions, here are the full terms of our guarantee:

What We Cover

  • Each tuber purchased from Indigo Wild Flower Farm is guaranteed to sprout.
  • If your tuber fails to sprout, we will send a replacement of the same variety (or a comparable variety if unavailable) during the same growing season, provided you meet the conditions below.
  • You must contact us within 30 days of receipt of your tuber order. Please send clear photographs showing the condition of the tuber, planting site, and any sprouts or lack thereof.
  • No guarantee is valid without photographs.

What Voids the Guarantee

  • Planting the tuber outdoors or in a pot before it shows an “eye” or visible sprout voids the guarantee.
  • Cutting, altering, dividing, or otherwise modifying the tuber before it has successfully produced a healthy plant voids the guarantee.
  • Plant damage caused by weather, poor drainage, animal or insect pests (such as slugs, snails, rodents), neglect, or other environmental factors is excluded.

Your Responsibilities

  • Upon arrival, immediately unpack and inspect your tubers. Take photographs of the tuber(s) as they arrived and note any visible issues.
  • Start your tubers in a warm, protected environment (for example, indoors or under lights) and ensure soil temperatures and conditions are suitable before planting outdoors.
  • Record when you plant the tuber and monitor it for sprouts or growth.
  • Report any concerns to us by email (with your photos) within the 30-day window.

Additional Notes

  • Please keep in mind that tubers of different varieties may sprout at different rates. Some are very eager; others may take longer.
  • While we strive for excellence in our tuber production and packaging, we cannot control pests, extreme weather, or soil conditions after shipment. That remains the gardener’s responsibility.
  • If you do receive a replacement, shipping of the replacement is typically for the same season if still feasible. Extensions will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Returns & Exchanges

Because our flowers are perishable and made to order, we do not offer returns or exchanges on fresh floral products. We do our best to ensure every bouquet leaves the farm in beautiful condition — but if something isn’t right when your order arrives, please contact us within 24 hours.

We’re a small farm and stand behind the quality of what we grow. If there’s a concern, we’ll work with you to make it right.

Pet & Human Allergy Disclaimer

While we grow all of our flowers with care and without harmful chemicals, some varieties may still cause allergic reactions or be harmful if ingested by pets or people. Our bouquets are for decorative use only and are not intended for consumption or topical use.

If you or your pets are sensitive to pollen or certain plant types, we recommend displaying your flowers out of reach and in well-ventilated spaces. Please reach out before ordering if you have specific allergy concerns — we’re happy to let you know what’s in season and help you choose blooms that are a better fit.

Your safety and peace of mind are important to us!
